Hindi voice typing

Hindi voice typing on your laptop, in any app.

Hindi voice typing is easy on a phone and awkward on a laptop. The Devanagari keyboard means learning a new layout, phonetic typing means spelling every word in English letters first, and most desktop dictation tools are built for English. VocalFlow is a free app for Mac and Windows that turns spoken Hindi into Devanagari text in whatever app you are typing in.

Hold a key, speak, let go. Deepgram’s Nova-3 model writes down what you said, an optional clean-up step fixes spelling and grammar, and the text is pasted at your cursor. If you speak Hinglish, you choose what comes out: Hindi in Devanagari, or Hinglish in Roman letters.

VocalFlow — live demo

Hinglish to Hindi, or Hinglish as it is.

Sample output

Most of us do not speak pure Hindi. Say “payment kal tak transfer kar dunga” and VocalFlow can give you four different results, depending on one setting. The last three need a Groq or OpenRouter key.

One Hinglish sentence and what VocalFlow pastes under four settings

How it works
  1. 01You speakHindi, Hinglish or English, while holding the hotkey
  2. 02Deepgram Nova-3Transcribes with the language set to Hindi
  3. 03Clean-up, if onFixes spelling and grammar, converts or transliterates
  4. 04Pasted at the cursorUnicode Devanagari, in whatever app you are in
Language set to Hindi
Pick Hindi (hi) in Settings. Nova-3 and the older Nova-2 both support it.
Hinglish handling
Code-Mix Input keeps mixed speech in Roman letters. Convert to Language rewrites every word in Hindi.
Plain Unicode text
The result is ordinary Devanagari text, so it pastes, searches and prints like anything you typed.
No keyboard to learn
You do not need InScript or a phonetic input method installed. The hotkey is the only new thing.
